Bridle: Confederate Officer's? If my memory serves me correct this bridle was I.d'd. as Confederate from the Atlanta History Museum (could be wrong here but there is no other provenance on it). Still, the style of hardware and leather work is appropriate for an officer's "round bridle". Note the horseshoe buckles, bull's-eye rosettes and fancy edge work. Rosettes were never issue items but were available in very small quantities from some arsenals early in the war. These were likely provided only to officers. For more information and photos of this and other patterns of CS bridles see the book "Confederate Saddles and Horse Equipment" By Ken R. Knopp (see home page).
