These two saddle bags are from a State Museum Archives Collection (they wish to remain
anonymous) and have some Confederate provenance. They were donated by the soldier or the
family. Still, like many artifacts, they may have not been made by a government arsenal or, could
have been a commercial made product "purchased" by the C.S. government and later issued or,
could be simply a "post-war make or usage" item and donated by the trooper's family. No way to
know for sure. That is the problem with many Confederate artifacts. A lack of detailed or
sophisticated documentation.
