JOHN HUNT MORGAN SADDLE
This artifact came to general public knowledge in the winter of 2004 and has been the subject of at least one TV "Antique" program. I have never handled this artifact but the documentation behind it and the photos suggest a legitimate and wonderful artifact. The story goes that Gen. J H Morgan's saddle was given to Gen. Edward Hobson, by members of his command for his effort in capturing Morgan and his men at the conclusion of Morgan's Ohio raid. The saddle remained in family property for many years after. Though there is a very some inconsistencies in the documentation most of it squares admirably with history and the artifact certainly denotes age, construction and the simplicity and wear of real campaign service. Until differing evidence comes to light I believe this artifact to be legitimate.
