
Un-Identified on fancy saddle: This trooper rides an English based "Spanish Saddle"with wood stirrups. He is well armed and equipped with a long arm, cartridge box, boots and double breasted frock coat. Too bad the photo is in such poor condition. Comments: This photo accompanied an article on N.B. Forrest in the Civil War Times Illustrated magazine (Oct. 1993, pg. 61). Its caption read "A Confederate cavalryman on his mount." No other information known. To me, this trooper has an early war militia or maybe a Southwest or Texas look to him. Note the hat and his bridle reins, they have a Spanish or Mexican influence, don't they?
